Futsal Rules

Futsal is not just indoor soccer. It’s a 5‑a‑side game played on a hard court with a smaller, low‑bounce ball. The rules are designed to keep the game fast, safe, and skill‑focused, so players get more touches and make more decisions every minute.

Essential Futsal Rules

Accumulated Fouls
After the 5th foul, direct free kicks are taken from the 10-meter mark (or closer) for each new foul.

Ball Sizes
U12 and younger: Use a size 3 ball.
U13 and older: Use a size 4 ball.

Player Contact
Skills and footwork are the focus. Physical contact to win the ball is typically a foul.

Four-Second Rule
You have four seconds to restart play for all set pieces.

Goalkeeper Possession
Keepers can touch the ball once per possession in their half. They must release it within four seconds.

Goal Clearance
A goal clearance replaces the goal kick. The goalie must throw the ball by hand.

Kick-ins
Restarts from the sideline are done with a kick. Kick-ins replace traditional throw-ins.

Red Cards
Teams play short-handed for three minutes. A goal by the opponent ends this penalty early.
